Many different tribes and Ethnic groups historically lived in the area of modern Turkey, they have a long history of handmade rug weaving and textile weaving. All these mostly nomadic tribes used rugs and textiles in the assembly of their tents and dwellings, to cover their floors, as well as installation against the harsh weather conditions.
Tribal rugs are currently very desirable. This is mostly due to their simple, primitive design patterns and use of vibrant colors, which are easily incorporated into many different home decors. Tribal rugs are not as symmetrical as traditional rugs which gives them an air of primitive abstraction.
Tribal rugs have evolved from being a very functional and practical item to carefully crafted conversation pieces that provide color, character, and richness to homes and businesses all over the world. They are usually woven with wool, or a combination of wool and cotton, using a knotted pile technique. Tribal rugs have many different names, each corresponding with a particular tribe or tribal region.
